The weather in my neck of the woods: Drizzle rain off and on. But much warmer! Yea! The sun is out!

Things that make me happy:
The opposite of Sandra’s when my fridge is empty because it is so clean. And free of leftovers that we never eat! But I really do love it when the pantry is full and the fridge and freezer are full. It is so much easier to make meals.

Book I'm reading:Passport Through Darkness by Kimberly Smith (for review)

On the menu for dinner:
Something simple still thinking on it. I have meat in the freezer but not much of anything else!

On my To Do List:
Finishing Laundry. Giving both bathrooms a good scrubbing. Vacuuming. (that’s what I said last week! LOL. Broken record I am!

My drama team performs tonight then Thursday is practise and we are having pizza.

Tips and Tricks:
I don’t always do this but it helps me to have a template of HHM in a word document. Then during the week I can fill in some of it. Like favorite blog posts or new blog. It helps me then I don’t forget where I found stuff.

Happy Homemaker Memories . . .

Welcome to Happy Homemaker Monday hosted by Sandra. Today I am a little short on time so I am posting without Sandra's template. Let's see how many topics I remember.

The weather in my neck of the woods: Cooler mornings, warm afternoons and cooler evenings. Fall is in the air and leaves are showing up around my door.

Things that make me happy: Holidays everything about them. The planning, the cooking, the shopping, the people! I am just smiling!

Book I'm reading: Finished all my review books at least for today and reading a novel donated to the girls halfway house called Tangerine by Marilynn Griffith. It's a page turner.

On the t.v.: As always nothing.

What am I cooking for dinner: Not really sure we need to do a major grocery shopping. Have no idea when that will happen. But I have shrimp in the freezer and chicken. Maybe tortilla soup if I can stop and get a ripe avocado. Yum.

On my to do list: laundry, finishing up unpacking boxes brought home from storage and moving things around in my 'small space'.

New recipe I want to try: The photo's speaks for it.

I found this at Monica's it is from Taste of Home. These are called apple nacho's I am planning on making them for a Fall party for our apartment ministry.


In the craft basket: Aprons to finish once I un-bury the sewing machine, a quilt to finish binding only have about 12 inches to go might get that done quicker.

Looking forward to this week: I always look forward to Tatooed Hearts and Sunday Worship. I love my boys.

Tips and Tricks: Just figured one out. My memory isn't what it used to be. I didn't get past the weather. So I opened a new window and put up Sandra's last post. Now I am going back and forth between windows reading her topic questions then typing them in my post. It's working for me today! FYI be sure and save every few minutes just in case!

Favorite Post and New blog: I found a great craft project over at Tator tots and Jello it's a really cute blog too. The post is a tutorial showing how to make black spiders out of beads.
I loved it I am going to make some for our apartment Trick or Treat event.

Lessons I learned this week: I have words from The Word hidden in my heart. Some forgotten. I need to work at memorizing scripture. When I was helping the boys last Wednesday they were working on verses I should have been able to recite too. Need some practise!

On my mind: Working on calendar for apartment ministry and finding time for required activities around our ministry and holiday activities.

Tips and Tricks:

Glass pie plates make great dinner plates. The edges keep peas and juice contained and I don’t worry about scratching them like I do my good dishes. It makes it great for a young child learning to use a knife.

The weather in my neck of the woods: Hot but getting cooler.

Things that make me happy: Avocado's I just love them!

Book I'm reading: Me,Myself and Paris by Ruth Yunker current rating: Promising

I'm enjoying on TV: I really need to change this one to current song I am enjoying. I just watch very little t.v.

On the menu for dinner: Hot Dogs, chips and cole slaw for lunch. Dinner not sure but I am thinking taco's I love my taco's.

On my To Do List:

1. Unpacking and organizing (got a bunch of stuff out of storage) 2. Laundry if I can find an open machine...Happy Labor Day everyone is off work and washing clothes. 3. Spending time at the sewing machine as soon as I finish my posts.

I love yellow squash and zucchini. Only problem is my favorite way to cook them is frying. I thought this look yummy and a little healthier. Here's the recipe.

Tips and Tricks:

If your grand children live in another state and your not able to be at their bday parties. Pack up a box filled with cups and plates and napkins a cake mix anything party related you can think of and ship. They'll have a great time making their own party. Caution do not think or expect this will be 'The' party. And don't try to push your idea off on your daughter in law. Just expect it to be a fun way for the birthday child to see you care!

The weather in my neck of the woods: I think it might be in the low 90's woohoo Fall just might be around the corner.

Things that make me happy: sewing. If I don't get to sit at my sewing machine I tend to get cranky.

Book I'm reading: It's No Secret by Rachel Olsen. Just got it today and it looks really good.

I'm enjoying on TV: nothing been too busy.

On the menu for dinner: Cowboy is working till 8 won't be home till 9 so it is can of soup and a sandwich. I cooked a huge brunch today. Eggs, chicken fried steak, hashbrowns and toast. I think soup is o.k. for tonight. What do you think?

On my To Do List: Finish putting in shelf paper.

Decorating Mosaic on a Blue Monday

I had such fun with these images I decided to do a Mosaic too and join in in Mosaic Monday over at Mary's and well of course I had to join Blue Monday too. Enjoy!



I loved this one. I have used this photo before for a Wordfilled Wednesday post. This photo is compliments of Kim at Star Shine Chic. She is one creative girl I love visiting her for inspiration.

I have no idea where this one came from. But I just loved all the different shades of blue not shure I would consider the cubes at least not these but it is fun to look at. And what an amazing window. I dream of a room like this. Can't you just imagine looking at the blue sky from this room.

What a light shade of blue and did you notice all the mixtures of color, texture, styles and fabrics. A dreamy room of Blue.

I dream of a potting bench filled with old chippy blue pots. It might be hard to tell but I think this is an old school desk.

And lastly I thought I would share this and lure you over to my Happy Homemaker post there is a lot of blue in Sandra's button photo!

Lesson learned the past few days: This is one I am trying to learn. In regard to God's plan and His will. We are struggling with the decision of my getting a job.

On my mind: Finding a job I have found a job that really suits me. Would you guys say a prayer for me. Ask God to open the doors and give me peace whether it is in getting this job or not getting it. I struggle with knowing His perfect will.

Things that make me happy: sleeping late and having the bed to myself.

Book I'm reading: Just finished Miss Hildreth Wore Brown by Olivia deBelle Byrd


I'm enjoying on TV:
I am actually filling this one in with something new. I just found Pit Bulls and Parolee's on Animal Planet. I really enjoy seeing the changes in the dogs. It is wonderful to see someone care about them and help rehabilitate. The concept of using men on parole and giving them a chance is great too. Check it out.

On the menu for dinner:
No idea. If the freezer, pantry and fridge was stocked I would do a steak with mushfrooms, and a ceasar salad, fresh fried okra, tomato and mozarella for an appetizer and a chocolate dessert ( I am hungry)


On my To Do List:
Want to keep looking for bloggers who repurpose clothing or sew. I am getting a lot of inspiration for a sewing project.

Lesson learned the past few days:
Sorry this is gross but if you live in an apartment and you have bugs they are probably not your fault because they were there when you moved in. I hate bug spray! My husband thinks it is the best thing since sliced bread he sprays ant's, flies anything with that disgusting stuff. But here's a tip if you do have bugs in kitchen windex, clorox clean up, or even hand washing soap will kill them just pour or spray and they will die right before your eyes. Much safer than that other nasty stuff. But if you find a bug in the dishwasher and you grab the hand dishing soap to annilate the trespasser and then you turn on the dishwasher the water will leak out on the floor.

On my mind:
Finding a job that pays enough but gives me flexibility so I can continue my volunteer job at McFadden Ranch. We do chapel services every week. Yesterday we had 30 boys!

The weather in my neck of the woods: Blessedly cool right now but not to last. It will be hot and no hope of rain. pout

One of my simple pleasures: Seeing flowers growing in the bed I just put in outside my kitchen window

On my bedside table: Don't ask (if your curious read my last few HH posts)

On my TV: Cowboy is home laying on loveseat with remote in hand...so that means 2 minutes per station.

On the menu for tonight: I have no idea. Baby sitting all day. I'll have to be thinking about it. Our freezer is getting close to empty.

On my To Do List: We rented a storage building while we re-arrange the furniture and move sewing room to a different room so I will be busy sorting and storing. And then I'll have a new room!

New Recipe I tried last week: Nothing new really but I did try putting things in the crockpot that I normally wouldn't. I love my crockpot.

In my craft basket: Christmas is around the corner. I am doing an embroidery quilt for my grandson. And making felt ornaments for each baby.

Looking forward to: Fall

Homemaking Tip for this week: Sandra and I are thinking washing dishes. My tip is if you have just a few dishes from dinner or lunch. Go ahead and wash and put away. It is easier to put away a few than waiting for full load in the dishwasher and putting away a lot at one time.

I figured out I need to write down the link when I find it then loose the piece of paper I wrote it on. Adding to my to do list: Getting organized. But I really loved my Wordfilled Wednesday post. You can see it here.

Lesson learned the past few days: Reminded of reinforced. That waiting and having faith in God. That if I trust him and ask him about each step he will be faithful to me as I am faithful to him. I tend to get ahead of God's plans. I need to give him control.

The weather in my neck of the woods:
HOT, HOT, HOT Yes...I copied Sandra but she said it so well!


One of my simple pleasures:
A quiet evening alone with no one else in the house, a glass of wine and a lifetime movie or chick flick.


On my bedside table:
Do I have to answer this again. If you have stopped in over the last coe couple of weeks the answer is the same. Please don't make me speak those words again. It depresses me that I haven't finished that project.


On my TV:
Christian c.d. package on our cable. "All Along" by Remedy Drive.


On the menu for tonight:
I don't know. Bottom lip sticking out! I didn't get to grill over the weekend. And I am keeping the baby till 7 that is why this post is late. So I have no idea what
I'll through together once he is gone.

On my To Do List:
Tonight I am going to try to move some more furniture around to finish the sewing room redo, maybe some sewing I want to make curtins for a couple shelfs and my desk. The week is busy: babysitting tommorrow, food bank Wednesday the deliver food, Thursday and Friday a leadership conference (we got scholarships how cool is that?) Saturday othing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll play all day digging in the dirt and Sunday church


New Recipe I tried last week:
I made my own creamed style corn and it was excellant. I took a can of white corn mashed it with a potato masher added some milk and butter and salt and pepper. It was really good.

Homemaking Tip for this week:
Mass cooking. I used to do Once a month cooking. But now I do it once a week. I think no a days people probably don't shop monthly much anymore. But if you cook up a couple pounds of hamburger and roast a chicken then you have 3-4 meals already almost prepared.
And, watch the new show scheduled for next week on food network. Did you see the finally of The Next Star? She is from Keller, Texas. I can't wait to see the show.

One special girl in our halfway house her name is Misty and she is 18 she has no one to go once she is finished at the halfway house. I am praying for a miracle in her life.

Homemaker Monday

The weather in my neck of the woods: Lovely rain. We had some thunderstorms during the night but now it is just misty. The ground and tomatoe's are soaking it in!

One of my simple pleasures: Sleeping while it is raining. Which is what I did this morning. I never set the alarm. I woke at 9:00 over an hour at least late! So that is why this post is late! But I love sleeping during the rain.

On my bedside table: The same books waiting for thier new home once a get a new bookcase.

On my TV: My husband loves to watch Jepardy at lunch.

On the menu for tonight: Pork tenderloin I grilled on Saturday.

On my To Do List: This week I am trying to firm up location for fundraising dinner for our ministry. I am an impatient girl. I have to get this part done so I can start working on corporate sponsors. The Gift a Way here

New Recipe I tried last week: This isn't new but I did it in the crockpot and it turned out great.

It is called Deer Camp Beans. Basically it is whatever dry beans you want to through in your pot. About a 1/2 cup each. Add rotel tomatoe's, salk pork a small package the whole thing if you have a big crock pot.

A chopped onion and you can add browned ground beef or sausage. Here's a hint I don't care for black beans so I soak them seperately from the rest and rinse real good.

Of course I soak all my beans over night. Then leave them on all day.

In the craft basket: I am a broken record. The same thing as last week. I have got to get my sewing room back in order!

Homemaking Tip for this week: Set your alarm especially if you enjoy sleeping during the rain as much as I do. Here's a cooking tip. The pork we are having tonight I grilled on Sat. I usually grill every Friday or Saturday and I do 3-4 meals. So then I have meat already done for the week. Sort of like once a week cooking which I love to do. Really helpful for a busy family.

Lesson learned the past few days: Back to that alarm clock again. I am so behind today.

On my Prayer List: Our ministry (financially), The girls at the halfway house. I learned when I visited yesterday that they have changed the rules and now they can only take 8 girls in the van at a time. 3 girls did not get to go to church yesterday.

I borrowed this from Sandra but it is exactly what I realized yesterday. We have had to cut some of our programming because of lack of funds. Yesterday when we visited the house we were greeted with such warmth by the girls. Some of which we have barely gotten to know because they are new. But just the small deeds we do. The short amount of time we spend with them just makes thier day.

The weather in my neck of the woods: Beautiful drizzling rain. Praise God. My tomatos are getting a good soaking!

One of my simple pleasures: Seeing a sleeping baby

On my bedside table: The same pile of books...but we got the baby's bed moved over the weekend...and he is sleeping peacefully in his new little room.

On my TV: Right now the Christian music c.d. package but tonight hopefully a good girl movie
my Cowboy husband won't be home. I'll have the remote all to myself.

On the menu for tonight: I think I will try fajita's in the crockpot I saw a recipe on Crockpot Thursday I want to try.

On my To Do List: All ministry related...planning an Oct. fundraising dinner have to firm up the location, finish two grants due on the 31st. The house the laundry will suffer but that is life.

Recipe I tried last week: Split Pea soup I found here I only cooked half the bag of peas and did it in the crockpot and it was great. We had enough for Friday night and then lunch on Sunday.

In the craft basket: Still the same quilt but as soon as I get the sewing room in order I need to make curtins for the baby's side of the room.

Looking forward to: The fundraising dinner in October. Before firming up the plans and the entertainment. I am so excited. I am really praying it all comes together.

Lesson learned the past few days: This isn't new but it has been reinforced over and over. That even though we go through struggles that Jesus is there standing in the gap for us waiting for us to reach out to him. I am a very visual person this just came really to read reality to me in a video I posted Saturday. You can go here to see it.

On my Prayer List: Two girls at our halfway house, a boy in the boy's facility and how to help him (he is 17 and doesn't know how to read or write), the fundraising dinner and the plans. Our Sunday School class we have not had a teacher since January.

Nothing. Blessed Peace another simple pleasure.


On the menu for tonight:
No idea. Do I have to cook tonight. (whine) Yes I have a hankering for beef n bean burrito's so probably do that and some rice and salad.


On my To Do List:
Sweep and Mop the floors
Finish moving furniture and getting th e sewing room back in order.


New Recipe I tried last week:
White Chicken Chili found a couple on the net kind of made my own up. It was yummy.


In the craft basket:
Can't find it. Buried amongst all the fabric and supplies in the makeover room.


Looking forward to:
Redundant but can't wait to finish making over the sewing room.


Homemaking Tip for this week:
Dryer sheets. I read this somewhere awhile back on someones blog. Used dryer sheets clean your shower. No more mold n mildew. I have been trying it for a few months and my shower looks like new. So simple and so cheap.

I can't do it all. That I need help. That I need to be patient when my Cowboy tries to do things too without asking for help. Patience...that is what I am learning.
