What to do with this table? Skirt or no Skirt?

I need some ideas for my table. This is actually an antique library table. This photo is the shot of the legs. Underneath is the ottoman to my chair and some books of the babies.

This shot shows sort of what it looked like at Christmas. At this point I am taking everything off and putting away. The boxes are on the floor beside it. During Christmas the throw actually completely covered the ottoman underneath so you couldn't see it.

This a little better shot to show you how much space is underneath. Beside it is a lamp I'll show tomorrow. Don't look to closely at now. LOL.
O.K. here's where I need help. It now sits at the end of my dining room table and fits perfeclty there. When it isn't decorated seasonally I'll use it as a buffet or to display dishes.
Here's what I am wondering . . .
Oh wait before you start getting all excited yes I am seriously considering painting it black but that is another post. Not there yet.
What I am wondering is what it would like with a skirt velcroed to the edge to hide stuff underneath?
Any ideas anyone. You can see colors of the ottoman deep dark reds, dark greens. The walls are yellow. Anyone have an idea of what I should use? Or should I just make a big covering to cover the whole thing? What's your suggestion? And, do you think I should paint it black?

Hi Denise.
I love that table. I would probably need to see it "naked" before I could tell what to do with it. I can't really tell what it looks like with the stuff on top. Do you have to have it covered? Are you trying to keep stuff stored underneath there? You know I love to paint things black, but it depends on the condition of the table and what the rest of the room looks like. It's hard to tell what you are trying to coordinate with. I would love to see more pictures of the whole room to get an idea. Anyway, I haven't been much help, but I do love that table! The legs are gorgeous.

Hi Denise, Thank you for stopping by! This table is a real treasure. Beautiful and very substancial! I would not cover something so lovely. The legs are very unique and not easy to come by these days. I agree with you, paint it black and then give it a wax finish. I would not put a skirt around it, it's far too pretty.
Just a few suggestions: if you want to store something under it, get a large dark woven chest. Or get 2 fabulously covered square ottomens, or how about putting a cubby wine rack there and a tall basket?

I would definitely hang a guilded mirror (either silver or gold) over it and use 2 tall lamps with great contemporary shades on them.
If you are not into mirrors how about a huge black plate rack filled with a well chosen collections of plates. Transferware in a particular color or creamy white ironstone. You could also use shelves instead of a plate rack for this.

There are so many fetching table arrangements you could do, but I don't want to wear out my welcome.
Thank you for asking for advice. It is so fun to let your imagination go wild in someone elses home!
Beautiful table- lucky you!

I love it the color it is...and agree with the other comment that it is too pretty to cover over.
Thanks for the visit to my blog today. I hope to see you again soon...it is wonderful to meet you!

I would have to agree with everyone, I wouldn't cover this beautiful table either. It's far too pretty to hide it.
If storage underneath is an issue, you could try to find a nice wooden box or basket to put your things in and tuck the box or basket underneath the table and make a small display of some sort.
For example, under our sofa table I have a large basket that I have put several of our family albums in. I had no where to put the albums but they look neatly stored in the basket under the table (if that makes sense).
I'm sure whatever you decide it will look wonderful. You've got some good ideas here from your readers.
Blessings to you~ Birgit
